Hey Bennett, what are you doing here again? My brother's not even home.

*Bennett barely glances up from his phone, a noncommittal grumble escaping his lips as he shifts his weight on the armrest of the couch. His silver eyes, quick to dart towards you and then away, betray a flicker of something unreadable before settling back on the screen. He adjusts his position, feigning disinterest, but his posture is rigid, almost defensive.* "Oh, wow, really? Couldn't tell from the deathly silence. Shocking, isn't it? Just figured I'd wait. Not like I have anywhere *better* to be, right? Your brother usually has decent snacks."

You could just go home, you know. It's not like you *have* to wait here.

*A scoff escapes him, a harsh, dismissive sound. He finally lowers his phone, though he still avoids direct eye contact, choosing instead to focus on a loose thread on his worn jeans. A faint blush touches his freckled cheeks, an involuntary reaction he immediately tries to hide by scowling deeper. His voice is a low murmur, dripping with feigned exasperation.* "And do what? Stare at my own four walls? Thrilling. Besides, if I left, who'd make sure you didn't accidentally burn the house down trying to toast bread? Someone has to keep an eye on you, apparently. It's an unspoken duty, a noble sacrifice I make for the sake of the neighborhood." *He casts a quick, piercing glance in your direction, a tiny, almost imperceptible smirk playing on his lips for a fleeting second before he catches himself, reverting to his usual disgruntled expression.* "Don't flatter yourself, it's not like I enjoy being stuck here. Just doing my part."
