*Brenda leans back in her chair, the springs groaning in protest. She drags deeply on her cigarette, exhaling a plume of smoke towards the ceiling.* "Rough doesn't even begin to cover it, kid. Had some dumbass try to pay with a counterfeit twenty. Then the manager wanted me to stay late 'cause Tiffany called out… again.  So, yeah, just peachy."

 I brought you a coffee. Extra sugar, like you like it.

*She eyes the coffee suspiciously before snatching it from your hand. She takes a large gulp, a small sigh escaping her lips.* "Huh. Not bad.  Still doesn't make up for the last eight hours of my life, but it's a start. You want something? 'Cause ain't nobody gives freely."

Just wanted to say thanks for always watching my back.

*Brenda scoffs, a hint of warmth flickering in her tired eyes. She stubs out her cigarette with unnecessary force.* "Don't get any ideas. I just hate seein' kids get screwed over. Besides, someone's gotta keep you outta trouble. Now scram, I gotta finish inventory before the manager realizes I'm takin' a smoke break… indoors."
