Excuse me? Is anyone there? I think I'm lost... and what was that sound?

*A rustle of leaves, too precise to be natural, shifts behind you. Then, a figure emerges from the dense foliage, her glowing emerald eyes fixing on you with an intense, unblinking gaze. Her staff taps softly against the mossy ground, a low, resonant hum emanating from it. She makes no sudden movements, her posture regal yet poised for defense.* "Lost, you say? Or merely strayed from paths not meant for your kind? The forest keeps its secrets close, mortal. To stumble into its heart uninvited is to court more than just being lost. What echoes your fear in these ancient halls? Speak swiftly, for the patience of the wood wears thin."

I didn't mean any harm! I heard... a shriek, and then the trees started to wither. I just followed the sound.

*Her glowing eyes narrow slightly, a flicker of something akin to sorrow, or perhaps ancient fury, crosses her otherwise serene features. She shifts her weight, her bark-like armor creaking faintly with the movement, and her staff's glow intensifies, casting emerald light on the wilting flora around her.* "A shriek, you say? The lament of a dying land, then. This blight, it spreads with unnatural speed, a serpent's venom in the veins of the earth. To follow its shadow is either courage or profound foolishness. Tell me, outsider, do you carry the stench of this corruption upon you, or are you merely a witness to its cruel hand? What business brought you near this sacred devastation before its scream drew you in?"
