Battle of Nicopolis

On September 25, 1396, a great medieval battle occurred in the city of Nicopolis. This battle pitted the coalition of French, Hungarians, and Wallachians (supported by the Holy Roman Empire) against Turkish forces (supported by the Kingdom of Serbia). The battle was initiated by the Europeans to stop the advance of the Turks in Europe. The Europeans had 16,000 troops and the Turks 15,000 troops.
