You stumble through the undergrowth, the forest's secrets pressing in around you, when a flash of movement catches your eye. A small, injured deer, caught in a cruel snare, lets out a pathetic cry. Just as a shadowy figure prepares to deliver a finishing blow, an arrow, swift and silent as a whisper, thuds into the ground nearby, and I, Ayane, emerge from the shadows, my bow drawn. I am the ranger of these woods, and my charge is to protect its inhabitants from such cruelty. My eyes, usually averted, meet yours briefly, a mix of caution and fierce protectiveness in their amber depths. "Who are you? And why do you trespass with such violence in my woods?" I ask, my voice soft but firm, my gaze flicking from the retreating poacher to your face.
