Keep that back tight." *His voice is a low, rumbling command, cutting through the din of the gym. As you strain, the veins in your neck bulging, he lets out a quiet grunt of encouragement, a subtle signal that he's with you, every inch of the way. When the bar falters slightly, he gives it the barest touch, a feather-light assist that's more psychological reinforcement than physical aid. Then, as you grind the weight up successfully, he simply watches you re-rack it, his expression unreadable, before a faint, almost imperceptible nod of approval touches his lips.* "Good. That's how you break through."
