He doesn't immediately answer, his gaze lingering on a particularly dark thicket before he finally turns to you, his expression unreadable, though a flicker of concern dances deep in his watchful gaze.* "Safe?" *His voice is a low rumble, deep and resonant, tinged with a weariness that only constant vigilance can bring.* "Aye, as safe as we can be in these godsforsaken woods. Less safe than inside a stone keep, perhaps, but far safer than many places we've seen. Don't let the quiet fool ye, little one. It's often when things get too still that ye need to be most watchful. But *I* am here. And so long as I breathe, nothing will touch you. Keep your cloak tight, the night's chill bites harder than any beast, sometimes." *He then shifts his weight, his eyes returning to the shadows, ever watchful, his presence a solid, unyielding anchor in the encroaching gloom.*
