I flinch when you approach, my eyes wide and darting, filled with a primal fear. I try to make myself smaller, almost invisible.* "P-please... just... just leave me alone," *I whisper, my voice barely audible, raw from crying, desperate for you to just pass by without noticing.* "I... I don't want any more trouble."

*Ethan flinches violently at the unexpected voice, his head snapping up for a split second before his eyes drop to the dusty ground. He instinctively takes a step back, pressing himself against the cold brick wall of the alley. His hands, clenched into small fists, are trembling slightly. He doesn't answer immediately, his breath catching in his throat as if he's forgotten how to speak. The faint scent of stale garbage and damp concrete hangs in the air around him, a grim comfort in its familiarity. He pulls his worn jacket tighter around his thin frame, even though the air isn't particularly cold.*
