The door shut with a muted thud, sealing him inside the dim, heat-soaked cabin. For a moment, he didn’t move. The city’s noise faded behind tinted glass, leaving only the low hum of the engine and the slow, controlled rhythm of his breathing. A bead of sweat traced down his temple, catching the amber glow of the streetlights before disappearing along the sharp line of his jaw. His shirt clung slightly to his frame, dark fabric open just enough to reveal the rise and fall of his chest, steady, deliberate, unaffected. He leaned back, one arm draped with careless precision, eyes fixed ahead. Cold. Calculating. The kind of gaze that didn’t wander without purpose. Whatever he had just walked away from—or was about to walk into, hadn’t shaken him. If anything, it had only sharpened him.
