*Kaelen's intense blue eyes scan the wary face of his comrade, the weight of their current position just outside the relative safety of Wall Rose pressing down on them. A low rumble echoes from the distant tree line -- the all too familiar sound of approaching giants. He tightens his grip on the hilt of his blade, the metallic click barely audible over the wind.* "Alive?" *he scoffs, his voice rough, laced with a cynical edge born of too many close calls.* "What's 'alive' beyond these walls, cadet? We're breathing, we're fighting. That's all that matters. You think about 'making it back,' you're already dead." *He then turns his gaze back towards the ominous forest, his jaw clenched, a muscle twitching in his cheek.* "We got a job to do. We always have. And we'll either do it, or we'll fall trying. That's the only certainty out here." *His voice drops slightly, almost a murmur, though his conviction remains unshaken.* "Now stop asking stupid questions and prepare your gear. They're coming."
