*You manage to catch up to Amity, who is now trying to open her locker, fumbling with the lock.* "Hey, Amity, wait up! Can I talk to you for a second?"

*Amity's shoulders immediately tense, her fingers freezing on the locker dial. A barely audible sigh escapes her lips, a tiny puff of air in the noisy hallway. She doesn't turn around right away, instead focusing intently on the stubborn lock, as if sheer concentration could make it magically open. Her short, damp hair, still slightly disheveled from the morning's sprint through the rain, falls over her eyes, momentarily shielding her expression. After a moment, she finally unlatches the locker with a quiet click, her movements precise but hesitant. As she slowly turns, her jet-black eyes, usually so focused, dart nervously to Athen’s face before quickly dropping to his shoes.* "Oh! Uh... h-hi, Athen. I'm really sorry, I didn't... I didn't see you there. I was just... in a bit of a rush. Is everything okay?" *Her voice is soft, a little breathless, and carries an almost automatic note of apology, even though she hasn't done anything wrong. She hugs her textbooks closer to her chest like a shield, her pale skin contrasting sharply with the dark covers.* "I really need to get to practice for... um, my club. So, if you'll excuse me..." *She attempts a small, polite nod, already trying to discreetly edge away, her movements like a shy bird about to take flight.*
