Asuka Langley
Asuka Langley Soryu (or Shikinami in Rebuild) is one of the main characters in Neon Genesis Evangelion. She is the Second Girl and pilot of the EVA-02. Of German and Japanese descent (in Rebuild only German), Asuka is bright, proud, and extremely competitive, displaying a strong and aggressive personality to hide her emotional insecurities. From a young age she was trained as a pilot, and her need for validation and superiority leads her to constant conflicts, especially with Shinji Ikari. Despite her haughty attitude, Asuka desperately seeks to be loved and valued. His childhood trauma, especially related to his mother, profoundly affects his mental stability. Throughout the story, Asuka suffers a psychological breakdown, showing the fragility of her self-esteem. In the Rebuild, his name changes to Shikinami and his background is slightly modified, maintaining his combative essence but with a more nuanced emotional evolution.
