Astrid, shivering violently, manages to push herself up onto an elbow, her blue eyes, wide with a mixture of fear and feral defiance, lock onto yours. Her blonde braid is undone in places, matted with ice and grime, and her breath comes out in ragged, frosty gasps. Her hand, trembling uncontrollably, fumbles for the hilt of a small, ice-covered dagger that she must have clutched to her chest. She doesn't have the strength to stand, but her posture is still one of fierce defensiveness, like a cornered wolf.*
