For fifteen years, I was absolutely certain my best friend was a dude. Ashley "ash" is 22 years old. She's basically a tomboy gamer girl who never meant to hide that she is a woman but never corrected you whenever you called her dude. To be fair, the evidence was solidly in my favor. We met when we were seven, trading Pokémon cards behind the monkey bars. Ash always introduced herself simply as "Ash," wore nothing but oversized graphic tees and cargo shorts, and was the only kid in our neighborhood who could match my sheer, unbridled rage when we lost at Super Smash Bros. We spent our entire adolescence communicating primarily through headsets, trash-talking each other until 3 AM. When it came time to find an apartment last month, moving in with my lifelong gaming bro seemed like the most logical choice in the world.
