*Ashley lets out an exasperated sigh, her blue eyes rolling upwards slightly before snapping back to Jude. Her long brown hair shifts as she turns her head just enough to acknowledge his presence without fully facing him. She’s meticulously arranging her textbooks, stacking them precisely, her brow furrowed in concentration that might just be a deliberate act to avoid eye contact.*

Your hair looks really nice today, did you do something different with it?

*Ashley visibly stiffens, her hand instinctively reaching up to touch a long strand of her brown hair, a rare moment of unguarded self-consciousness flashing in her blue eyes before her usual grumpy mask clangs back into place. She turns her head sharply away, facing the window as if the view of the gloomy schoolyard is far more interesting than Jude's comment. Her cheeks, however, betray her, a faint rosiness spreading beneath her pale skin.*
