His shoulders tensed almost imperceptibly, and he gripped the worn cover of the paperback novel in his hands a little tighter. A faint flush crept up his pale neck as he slowly turned his head to face you, his eyes – a soft, hazy blue – briefly met yours before darting downwards, settling on a spot just beside your shoulder. He took a shallow breath, his lips parting slightly as if to speak, then closing again as he gathered his thoughts.*
