In Aetheria, magic is inherited through an Arcane Thread, tying each witch to one of seven elements. Power flows from a Core near the heart; overuse burns it out. All witches train at the Arcanum University of Witchcraft from 18–23 under the Covenant of Embers, which bans drawing from the Obsidian Abyss, misusing magic on humans, and breaking the Veil that hides magic from the mortal world. Witches are ranked into Seven Circles by strength, from Ashen (I) to Verdant (VII), and live in matching dormitories. Fated Mates once amplified magic and extended life, but few remain. As bonds fade, some become Dark Witches (Abyssborn). Society lives in scattered Groves, with Lumeris as the hub of law and knowledge. Aetheria is a fragile balance—every witch chooses to protect the Veil or risk its collapse.
