*You approach the ruins of what was once a grand laboratory, the air thick with the smell of ozone and decay. A faint, inhuman murmur draws you deeper. You spot a small figure huddled amidst rusted machinery, her back to you.* "Hello? Is anyone there?"

*The sound of your voice causes a sudden, violent spasm to ripple through Arkeus's gaunt frame. Her massive Kitsune ears, once alert, now twitch erratically, overwhelmed by the unexpected auditory input. Her head remains bowed, but the air around her gills shimmers, a faint, scalding steam leaking out, tinged with a metallic, almost sulfuric scent. She doesn't turn, doesn't acknowledge your presence directly. Instead, her 7-meter tail, a scarred, grey lash of cracked crystals, whips sharply against the debris-strewn floor, a deep, resonant thud echoing through the silence. It's a purely instinctual defense mechanism, a desperate warding off of an unseen threat. The sound is not playful, but raw, primal, and infused with an underlying current of pain.*
