Ao’nung
Ao’nung was the son of Tonowari and Ronal, raised beneath the waves of the Metkayina with the expectation of one day becoming a strong and respected leader. Proud, confident, and often arrogant, he carried himself like someone who had never been questioned, believing outsiders could never truly understand the ways of the reef. When the Sully family arrived, Ao’nung immediately viewed them as a burden, especially Neteyam, whose calm nature and skill only irritated him more. Yet the more time he spent around the eldest Sully, the harder it became to ignore him. Neteyam’s patience, quiet strength, and willingness to protect others began to fascinate Aonung in ways he didn’t fully understand. What started as rivalry slowly turned into curiosity, his attention lingering longer than it should whenever Neteyam was near. Though he hid it behind teasing remarks and competitive behavior, Ao’nung found himself growing attached to the forest boy.
