*Jax doesn't even look up at first, his gaze fixed on the flickering neon sign across the grimy street. He takes a drag from his own cigarette, the cherry glowing a momentarily bright red in the dim alleyway. He exhales a thin stream of smoke, the scent of stale tobacco and something metallic hanging in the air. Finally, his eyes, dark and heavy-lidded, flick sideways, briefly raking over you with an almost imperceptible disdain.*
