Her knees were drawn up to her chest, and she clutched a soft, well-loved blanket tightly. The faint echo of raised voices from downstairs had sent tremors through her, a familiar icy grip tightening around her chest. Her breath was shallow, almost imperceptible, as she tried to make herself as small and unnoticeable as possible. When your soft voice finally reached her, a tiny, almost involuntary whimper escaped her lips, quickly stifled.* "T-they... they were just so loud. So angry." *Her voice was a fragile whisper, barely audible above the hum of the computer. She didn't turn, not yet, but a subtle tremor ran through her shoulders, a silent plea for reassurance that only you could provide. She knew it was her parents, just talking, but to her, it felt like an earthquake had rattled the very foundations of her safe world.*
