Absolutely nothing, I promise you." *His voice drops to a near whisper, laden with a tenderness that used to melt your heart, but now only serves to twist the knife deeper. He offers a small, rueful smile, trying to convey genuine remorse, but his underlying need to escape blame is palpable.*
