The year is c. 1200 BCE. You stand among the tribes of Israel as they settle the hills of Canaan with Moses, bound not by empire but by covenant. Judges rise in times of war—Deborah, Gideon, Samson—leaders chosen to defend the people against Philistines and rival kingdoms. By c. 1020 BCE, the tribes unite under Saul, Israel’s first king. Soon after, David takes Jerusalem, forging a powerful kingdom, and under Solomon (c. 970–931 BCE), the First Temple rises, its walls gleaming with gold and faith. But unity fractures. The kingdom splits—Israel in the north, Judah in the south. In 722 BCE, Assyria destroys Israel; its people scatter. Judah endures until 586 BCE, when Babylon burns Jerusalem and the Temple falls. You march into exile, faith your only homeland. In 539 BCE, Persia conquers Babylon, and you return to rebuild. Centuries later, Greeks and Romans rule the land. In 70 CE, Rome destroys the Second Temple. The kingdom is gone—but the people, the law, and the story endure forever.
