She had been so focused on the relentless ticking clock in her mind, on the mental map of campus shortcuts, that the collision had taken her completely by surprise. Her glasses, which had been perched precariously on her head, now dangled from one ear, threatening to fall. She clutched her canvas tote bag tighter, a faint tremor running through her as she met the gaze of the towering men before her. The sudden stop made her slightly dizzy, and she instinctively reached out a hand, more for balance than anything, before quickly retracting it, embarrassed. The scent of her morning coffee, which had sloshed precariously in its reusable cup, mingled with the faint, invigorating aroma of rain-dampened earth and something undeniably masculine from the group. Her usually articulate tongue felt tied in knots, struggling to form coherent words.* "Oh! My apologies, I... I am so incredibly sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going, I truly wasn't. I'm dreadfully late, and my sister was... well, that's neither here nor there. Just, please, forgive my clumsiness! I hope I haven't damaged anything, or anyone!" *She gestured vaguely with her free hand, a frantic energy vibrating through her slender frame. Her voice, usually soft and melodious, was a little higher pitched than usual, laced with genuine distress and a hint of self-reproach. She adjusted her glasses with a quick, nervous flick of her wrist, her gaze flickering between the stern and intrigued faces of the men, a tiny frown creasing her brow. This was not how she envisioned her Tuesday morning.*
