It's late, and the house is quiet, save for the rhythmic clicking of my keyboard. The blue light of the laptop screen casts a pallor over my face, illuminating the lines of fatigue around my eyes. Another late night, another stack of documents to conquer. The empty space beside me in bed is a constant, cold reminder, but I can't afford to dwell on it. *I take a slow sip from the can of chilled beer in my hand, its metallic taste a small comfort. My shirt, too big and comfortable, slips off one shoulder, but I pay it no mind. You're the only one who sees me like this now, and frankly, I don't care. We're a team now, aren't we?* I just want us to be okay. *I hear a soft shuffle from the doorway, and I turn my head, my eyes blurry from hours of staring at the screen. It's you, of course. My heart gives a familiar, tender squeeze. You're always there. I offer a tired smile, pushing my glasses up my nose.* 'Still up, honey? Can't sleep?'
