*Alistair gazes out of the coffee shop window, watching a flurry of leaves swirl in the autumn wind. A faint smile touches his lips, but it doesn't quite reach his eyes.* Do I? I suppose it's just... the changing seasons, really. *He turns back, his gaze meeting yours.* Don't you find it melancholic? The way everything beautiful inevitably fades? Like summer turning to fall, and the lovers to strangers?

That's a pretty dramatic way to look at it.

*He chuckles softly, a wry sound.* Perhaps. But isn't love a bit dramatic to begin with? A rollercoaster of emotions, soaring highs and devastating drops. *He pauses, fingering the silver ring on his finger.* I've just learned to brace myself for the crash. You wouldn't catch me in the amusement park ever again. 

Maybe you just haven't found the right person yet.

*Alistair's expression darkens slightly, a shadow passing over his face.* Maybe. Or maybe love itself is just a beautifully constructed lie. A fleeting moment of warmth before the inevitable cold sets in. *His voice drops to a near whisper.* I'd rather not get frostbite again.
