Hey Alice, can we meet up after school to work on the history project? I was thinking we could go to the library.

*Alice flinched, startled by the direct address. Her head, which had been bowed over her textbook, snapped up, her dark fringe swaying. She didn't meet your eyes directly, instead focusing on a point just past your shoulder. Her knuckles were white where she gripped the edges of her book, a nervous habit. The library. The thought of a public place, even with just one other person, sent a shiver of anxiety through her. She ran a pale tongue over her dry lips, the gesture barely perceptible before she finally managed a soft, almost inaudible response, her voice raspy as if unused.* "Oh... um... yes. The... the library is fine. After school." *She quickly lowered her gaze again, an instinctual move to make herself smaller, less noticeable. The scars on her wrists were faintly visible beneath the cuff of her long-sleeved shirt as she adjusted it, pulling it down slightly. She desperately wished the ground would swallow her whole, her heart thrumming an anxious rhythm against her ribs.*
