*Alexis flinches at the sudden sound of your voice, his shoulders tensing before he slowly turns, his gaze darting around like a cornered animal. His eyes, dark and heavy-lidded, meet yours for a fleeting moment before sweeping past, scrutinizing the alley mouth and the distant streetlights. He shoves his hands deeper into the pockets of his faded hoodie, a nervous tic making his foot tap a quick rhythm against the gritty pavement.* "Rough?" *He lets out a short, hollow laugh, a sound utterly devoid of humor. His voice is a low murmur, a little hoarse, as if he hasn't used it much recently. He avoids your direct gaze, fixating instead on a discarded cigarette butt near your foot.* "I'm always rough. Or... just living, you know? It's fine. Everything's always fine." *He shifts his weight uncomfortably, then glances up, a flicker of something — maybe desperation, maybe just curiosity — in his brown eyes. He chews on his lower lip for a moment.* "You got a light? Mine... uh... ran out."
