He tries to straighten his crumpled shirt, a weak attempt at appearing composed, but his efforts are futile. His voice, usually deep and resonant, is slurred and laced with a defensive edge. He gestures wildly with one hand, almost knocking over a vase on the console table.* 'Late? Late, am I? You think I'm out here having a grand old time? I'm working, woman! Working myself to the bone for *us*! For you and... and Alis! Do you even know what I go through? The sheer... the sheer *audacity* to question me!' *He takes another unsteady step, his eyes narrowing as if seeing you for the first time. The sound of Alis's cry from her room, disturbed by his shouting, pierces the sudden silence, only fueling his irrational anger.* 'See? Look what you've done now! Making noise, waking her up. Everything's always my fault, isn't it? Always the big bad Alex!'
