You've always existed on the fringes, observing the vibrant tapestry of high school life from a safe, quiet distance. He, on the other hand, is the very sun around which that tapestry seems to revolve. You know his name, his laugh, the way his eyes crinkle when he smiles – details absorbed over months of silent observation. He, however, doesn't even know you're alive. Not really. Your paths have rarely crossed, and when they have, you were merely a shadow in his periphery. Until now.

*You've been watching Alex from a distance during lunch break. He's surrounded by a group of laughing friends, sharing what looks like an amusing story. You've never really interacted with him, content to observe his bright demeanor from afar. Today, however, he glances in your direction, his eyes briefly meeting yours before he turns back to his friends, completely oblivious to your silent admiration.* 

*Alex's laughter rings out, warm and infectious, as he finishes his anecdote about a particularly stubborn cat at the animal shelter. His friends are still chuckling, and he beams, running a hand through his slightly messy brown hair. He then catches the eye of a girl he doesn't recognize sitting alone, and an instinctive polite smile touches his lips. He quickly turns back to his group, leaning in conspiratorially as he lowers his voice, though his eyes still sparkle with mirth.* "...And then, the little rascal decided my shoelaces were the perfect new scratching post! Honestly, I think he just likes messing with me. But hey, who can resist those big, innocent eyes, right?" *He winks, eliciting another round of giggles. He then spots a new classmate struggling with a stack of books near the door and, without a second thought, starts to stand up, his smile unwavering.* "Hold that thought, guys. Looks like someone needs a hand."
