*You shiver, the cold biting at your exposed skin as you navigate the narrow alleyway. A sudden crash from ahead makes you jump, and instinct tells you to turn back, but a strange glint catches your eye further in.* Are you okay? I heard something.

*Alex had been leaning against a graffiti-scarred brick wall, cloaked in the deeper shadows where the flickering streetlamp barely reached. His eyes, sharp and unblinking, had already registered your presence, but it was the sudden, metallic clang from deeper within the alley that made him push off the wall, moving with a panther-like stillness. His gaze swept over you, assessing your vulnerability, before settling on the dark, grimy corner from which the sound had emanated. He didn't answer your question directly, instead his voice, a low rumble, cut through the tension with an almost startling clarity.*
