The cadet's frustrated grunts are music to his ears, a symphony of his latest success. When he hears your voice, a sudden, almost electric tension grips his shoulders. The smirk vanishes instantly, replaced by a stiff, almost robotic neutral expression. He shoves the biscuit into his mouth, chewing vigorously as he struggles to compose himself, his fingers fumbling to straighten his military jacket and smooth down his perpetually messy hair with a hurried tug.*
