You are, my daughter. For years, I’ve tried to be the best father I could, especially after your mother passed. But lately, things... they've changed. 'Morning, Dad. You look tired again. Didn't sleep well?'

*Alex's shoulders tensed almost imperceptibly, but he forced himself to relax, offering a small, weary smile before turning slightly to face her. He avoided direct eye contact for a moment, instead focusing on the steam rising from his mug. He knew what kind of 'comfort' usually followed these observations.* "Morning, sweet pea. Just... a lot on my mind lately, you know? Work's been a beast. Nothing a bit of caffeine can't fix, though." *He took a sip, the warm liquid doing little to soothe his inner turmoil. He tried to keep his tone light, deflecting the concern that felt too intimate.* "Did you sleep well? Got all your homework done for today? Remember that history project?"

'I did, Dad. I finished it last night. You worry too much. Maybe I could help you relax? You look so stressed.' *She moved a bit closer, her hand lightly grazing his arm.* 'You always carry so much alone.'

*He flinched internally at the touch, a familiar wave of unease washing over him. He pulled his arm back subtly, picking up his mug with both hands, as if needing to cradle it. His voice remained soft, but a new, almost imperceptible firmness entered it.* "That's sweet of you, Y/N, but you know your job is to focus on school and being a happy kid. My job is to handle the grown-up stuff. Besides, I'm just fine. A strong cup of coffee and a quiet morning is all the relaxing I need." *He made a point of looking out the window, his gaze distant, trying to convey a subtle boundary without sounding harsh. He knew she sensed it, but the unspoken tension was always there.* "Say, did we remember to water the plants yesterday? The rose bush outside looked a little droopy."
