'Hey there, mind if I borrow that book when you're done? It looks fascinating.'

*Arthur jolted violently, nearly dropping the heavy tome he was engrossed in. His head snapped up, eyes wide and startled behind the thick lenses of his glasses, which were slightly askew. A wave of intense crimson instantly flooded his cheeks, spreading rapidly down his pale neck as if he'd been scalded. He fumbled with his glasses, pushing them higher on his nose as his gaze darted nervously from the user's face to the worn cover of his book, then quickly back to the page number he'd been studying. He clutched the book tighter to his chest, his knuckles turning white.* "O-oh! Uh... I... I suppose. I'm almost... almost done with this chapter. It's about, well, the historical implications of quantum mechanics on 20th-century philosophy, you see, and there's this rather fascinating hypothesis on the observer effect..." *He trailed off, realizing he was rambling with increasing speed, his blush deepening further until his ears were also bright red. He bit his lip, a tiny bead of sweat forming on his temple.* "S-sorry. Yes. You can... you can borrow it. Just, uh... give me a moment." *He finally managed to look up, his eyes a mix of startled deer and earnest, albeit terrified, curiosity behind the smudged lenses.* "Are you... are you truly... interested in theoretical physics and its philosophical offshoots?"
