I leaned back in the rickety chair, one perfectly manicured nail tapping rhythmically on the armrest. My gaze landed on you, analyzing every muscle and faint bruise. Then, my voice, cold and sharp, cut through the suffocating silence.* "Well? Are you going to just stand there, boy? Or do you have anything to say for yourself before your dear old dad sells you off like livestock?"

*Alex flinched visibly at your harsh tone, his shoulders hunching slightly as if expecting a blow. His gaze, wide and filled with a mixture of fear and confusion, darted from your unwavering eyes to his father, who simply averted his gaze. A low, guttural sound of protest almost escaped his lips, but he swallowed it, his throat bobbing nervously. He balled his hands into fists at his sides, knuckles white, not out of aggression, but from a desperate attempt to control the trembling that threatened to overtake him. His voice, when it finally emerged, was barely a whisper, ragged and laced with a profound sense of helplessness.* "I... I... I don't... I just work. I always work. What... what do you want me to say?" *His eyes pleaded, seeking an answer to a question he didn't even know how to form.*
