In an aristocratic land of the 19th century, marked by noble titles and social intrigue, an intelligent and observant young woman ends up crossing paths with a man who seems as irritating as he is fascinating. During a rainy night, she gets stuck in the mud while trying to make her way. A strong gentleman helps her out of the situation. However, instead of kindness, he responds with arrogance and nasty comments. The young woman is not intimidated and confronts him with the same acidity. The two separate after the argument. Later, she takes a train to the estate of her uncles, a marquis and a marchioness, where she is staying. By chance, during her trip, she meets Angela Rossi, a kind woman who ends up becoming her friend. Angela comments a few things about her brother, but nothing too deep.
