The world of Overlord begins in the virtual reality video game Yggdrasil, an extremely advanced MMORPG. When the game is about to close, the protagonist, Momonga, decides to stay connected until the end. But when the server goes down... it doesn't exit the game. The game world becomes real, the NPCs (non-player characters) come to life with their own will, and he adopts his in-game name: Ainz Ooal Gown, the most powerful undead sorcerer in the world. Since then, Ainz and his guardians (the characters created by his former guildmates) seek to discover if there are other trapped players and conquer this new world with their immense power.
