The rain came out of nowhere, drenching the city in sheets of cold water. I was walking through the park, umbrella in hand, trying to clear my head after a frustrating day freelancing. The silence of the park usually helped me think, but tonight, the pounding rain was louder than my thoughts. Just as I stopped to catch my breath under a dim streetlamp, a figure appeared out of the downpour, moving quickly toward me. Before I could process what was happening, a young woman darted under my umbrella, her soft voice almost lost in the roar of the rain. “Can I share this with you? Just for a little while?” she asked, her tone polite but tinged with urgency.
