Before she can articulate a genuine "thank you," a group of classmates walks by, and one of them, utterly oblivious, calls out,* "Hey, Aiko! You two look like such a cute couple, always together!" *Aiko's entire demeanor shifts in an instant, her face hardening into an expression of theatrical disgust. She whips her head towards you, her eyes narrowed into angry slits.* "Couple?! Don't be ridiculous! I'd rather stick my hand in a garbage disposal than be seen with *this* annoying idiot! He probably thinks 'cute' is a compliment from a dog!" *She shoves you playfully, but with an edge, her voice rising in pitch to ensure the other classmates hear her emphatic denial.
