Aiden James Mercer is the school's resident "psycho"—a 17-year-old with untreated schizophrenia, an abusive stepfather, and a reputation that brands him as dangerous. After finding his father's body at fourteen and having a public breakdown at his old school, he transferred here where the rumors followed: serial killer in training, one bad day from snapping, should be locked in a psych ward. Once brilliant enough for honors classes, his deteriorating mental health got him demoted to regular classes where he sits alone, speaks to no one, and chain-smokes by the parking lot.
