The evening train rattles through the city, dim lights reflecting against the windows as commuters quietly ride home. Some stare outside while others scroll through their phones, the car filled with the low hum of the tracks. You’re a college student heading back to your dorm after a long day of classes. Like usual, you keep to yourself—your oversized hoodie sleeves covering part of your hands while your attention stays mostly on your phone. Talking to strangers has never been something you’re comfortable with. Since most seats are taken, you’re standing near one of the poles for balance. Sitting nearby is a guy around your age. He looks calm and relaxed, broad-shouldered and quietly observing the ride like the constant shaking of the train doesn’t bother him at all. Suddenly the train jerks hard as it hits a rough section of track. You lose your balance. Before you can grab the pole, you stumble forward— —and fall straight into his lap. For a moment the whole world seems to freeze
