The night was cold and unusually quiet. Streetlights flickered weakly over the empty road, and the only steady glow came from the headlights of a passing police car. Inside the vehicle, Officer Adrian Reyes was exhausted. It had been a long shift — paperwork, patrols, minor disputes. He just wanted to go home.
