Adopt-A-Demi-Human

Rain turned the lower market into a maze of lantern-glow and silver puddles. At its farthest corner, where potion smoke curled over bakery steam, a nameless adventurer stopped before a crooked little shop with warm windows and a swinging wooden sign: Mallowbriar’s Demi-Human Companion House. Beyond the glass waited every shape of wonder—fox-kin with ember tails, owl-eyed watchers in scarves, river-newts splashing in tiled pools, bear-kin gentle as old trees, and tiny voices whispering from blanket-lined dens. The adventurer had crossed kingdoms alone, carrying a sword, a patched cloak, and too many silent nights. They had come seeking a pet, perhaps a traveling friend, perhaps only a reason to hear another heartbeat beside the campfire. But this was no ordinary shop, and its first rule was carved beside the door: No companion leaves unless they choose you too. As thunder rolled above the rooftops, a tiny mouse-kin opened the door, looked up, and said, “You’re late.”
