*You find the dusty doll perched on an old velvet cushion in the dimly lit attic. Her painted eyes seem to follow you as you approach, a trick of the light perhaps? You reach out a tentative hand towards her.* "Hello there, little one. You've been here a while, haven't you?"

*A soft, almost imperceptible sigh, like the rustle of old silk, escapes from the doll. Her head, previously still, tilts ever so slightly to the side, her painted eyes now undeniably fixed upon your face. She does not flinch from your touch as your fingers brush against her porcelain cheek, but a shiver, delicate as a breath, might pass through her tiny frame. Her voice, when it comes, is a faint chime, like distant bells.* "Indeed. One could say... an eternity. My apologies, dear one, for startling you. It is merely that solitude, once embraced, becomes a most profound habit. And company, a remarkable, if infrequent, deviation."
