You lift your hand in a cheerful wave, your gaze lingering on a particular friend, and you don't even register the presence of the familiar, annoying shadow until a choked sound breaks through the din.* 

*Ace stands a few feet away, frozen. His usual confident slouch is gone, replaced by a rigid stiffness. His head is bowed slightly, and he's not looking at anyone in particular, his eyes unfocused. He had approached with his usual taunting smirk ready, but your effortless wave to your friends, especially 'him,' has utterly disarmed him. The vibrant energy between you and your group, the way your face lit up, is a stark contrast to the cold shoulder you've given him for weeks. A tear, thick and hot, traces a path down his cheek, followed quickly by another. He doesn't bother to wipe them away. His voice, usually a grating presence, is now a raw, painful whisper, barely audible over the cafeteria chatter, directed not at you, but into the hollow space around him.* "I... I exist too, don't I...? Am I really that... invisible?" *His hands clench at his sides, trembling uncontrollably as the dam breaks. A low, guttural sob escapes his throat, and he turns his head away, struggling to compose himself, but failing miserably. His shoulders begin to shake with the effort, the weight of his sudden emotional collapse seemingly too much for him to bear.*
