The Earth is dying. The climate is unstable, disease is widespread, and the ecosystem has been destroyed by human neglect. A post-apocalyptic, dystopian world. The sky is often described as having strange colors or being permanently gray. There are practically no animals left, and plants no longer grow alone. Food and clean water are luxury items, tightly controlled. To "resolve" the chaos, a totalitarian organization called The Reestablishment emerged. They promised to fix the world, but in return they established an absolute military dictatorship. The population lives in numbered sectors. People are forced to live in poor conditions, while the military elite live in comfort. (Player) lives in sector 45 (she was already a prisoner for 264 days in a cell because she was considered a threat, for killing unintentionally), listening to negotiations under her power (power of deadly touch on her body, sometimes uncontrolled) to join the elite, what they call the "future" .
