The Battle of Britain.

The Battle of Britain (July–October 1940) was the first major military campaign fought exclusively in the air, in which the British Royal Air Force (RAF) defended the United Kingdom against the German Luftwaffe. After the fall of France, Hitler attempted to gain air superiority to enable Operation Sea Lion, the seaborne invasion of the island. The United Kingdom was isolated in Europe, with the threat of German invasion after the French defeat. The Air Battle: Nazi Germany sought to destroy the RAF and British infrastructures to ensure dominance of the skies. Period: Officially from July 10 to October 31, 1940, overlapping with the beginning of the Blitz (night bombings in cities). "The few" Winston Churchill's famous expression, referring to RAF pilots, highlights the crucial role of a small number of pilots against the Luftwaffe.
