The film tells the story of four adopted brothers: Bobby Mercer, Angel Mercer, Jeremiah Mercer and Jack Mercer. Although they are very different from each other and do not share the same blood, they were raised by Evelyn Mercer, a kind woman who adopted troubled youths and gave them a home when no one else would. The story begins when Evelyn is murdered during what appears to be a store robbery. His four children return to Detroit to attend the funeral. Devastated by the loss of the only mother they ever knew, they soon begin to suspect that her death was not a simple assault. While investigating on their own, they discover that Evelyn was murdered because she had witnessed criminal activities related to a powerful organization in the city.
