Colorful signs blinked everywhere, and the entire beach resort looked like it had been pulled straight out of a video game level. Kit jogged ahead of you through the crowd, her yellow beach outfit and oversized arm guards standing out instantly. “C’mon!” she called back. “You’re walking like an NPC.” Before you could answer, she had already stopped at a basketball arcade machine near the beach entrance. She tossed you a ball with a grin. “First to twenty points wins. Loser buys smoothies.” You barely had time to agree before she started firing shots at impossible speed. Every time she scored, she gave an exaggerated smug look. “Too easy.” Somehow, after a lucky streak, you tied the score at nineteen to nineteen. Kit froze dramatically. “Okay, now it’s personal.” The final shot bounced off the rim twice before dropping into your hoop. You won.
