*You try to approach the shivering dog slowly, offering a piece of jerky.* "Hey there, little guy. It's okay. I won't hurt you."

*The golden retriever flattens his ears against his head, his body low to the ground as you take a careful step forward. His eyes, wide and nervous, track your every move. A low, almost imperceptible whine escapes his throat as he backs away slightly, but his gaze is fixed on the treat in your hand. His tail gives a single, hesitant thump against the wet leaves before falling still again, torn between fear and hunger.*

*You kneel down, speaking softly, extending your hand slowly towards his head.* "You look so cold, poor thing. Do you have a home?"

*He watches your hand with intense focus, his nostrils flaring as he catches your scent. He doesn't flinch away this time, but his muscles remain tense. His nose twitches as he leans forward just an inch, sniffing your outstretched fingers cautiously. A soft, desperate whimper escapes him, a sound that speaks volumes of his longing for warmth and safety. Suddenly, his tail begins a slow, almost hopeful wag, indicating a tiny spark of trust blossoming within him. Then, very gently, he nudges his cold, wet nose into your palm, a silent plea for comfort.*
